HOW IT STARTED

I think I was about 15 when I played in a band for the first time. Our music was pretty simple and we only played punk rock. However, I was playing the bass guitar. Although, we were playing horrible but we were having fun just playing music together. Anyway, some of the concerts we played were kind of legendary, I think.

As some years went by one of my friends and I wanted to play more than only punk rock. As a result the band broke up. This is why we formed a new band called the Eclectic Subtle Tones. From that point in time I started playing the guitar and I was the lead singer of the band. We were inspired by punk, rock and ska and that project began to develop more and more. We got better and better and this is why music started to be a huge part in my life.

HOW THE PROJECT DEVELOPED

There were times when I was writing songs like there was no tomorrow. Some of them were good for the band but some just didn’t fit. I’ve been writing about life, about love, about society, just about everything I was concerned of. Well, I’ve always been saying that as some other people are writing diaries – I am writing my songs. Due to the fact that some of the songs didn’t match the band and because I wanted to bring in more depth into my music I started The PD Project around 2006.

As I was writing songs as if they would be pages of my diary, I came up with that name. In short, «PD» means private diary. In other words, it’s the private diary project. First and foremost it should have been something different. This is why I only used accoustic instruments in the beginning. As the band members grew older the Eclectic Subtle Tones broke up.

Well, there was only The PD Project being left. Since I loved the kind of music and the arrangement of the band, The PD Project had to change, too. From that point in time The PD Project got what it is today… it’s a funky fresh confluence of different music styles – inspired by Alternative, Reggae, Ska, Punk, Rock and many others.

ABOUT MY DEVELOPMENT

I have never really had guitar, drums, singing or instrument lessons at all. Well maybe I should explain precisely, I have had some guitar lessons when I was 9. Later on, ice hockey was more interesting and I stopped taking guitar lessons and forgot everything about playing the guitar again. It was because of my best friend that I started playing the bass guitar from scratch and later on the guitar and the drums.

I have learnt the most by just listening, playing and having fun. Mostly I was just sitting at home playing whatever I liked, often I tried to play the Dire Straits. I think it was kind of an obsession: I have always wanted to play the songs the same way as my idols did… especially Mark Knopfler. Well, unfortunately it still does not sound as good as Mark Knopfler when I play the Sultans Of Swing for example but I love to play the song my way.

I don’t really have notes reading skills at all. When I was about 26 I joined the teachers training to become a primary school teacher. That was the first time I really had to take guitar lessons and learn to read music. It was terrible because if you can play something like Sultans Of Swing in your own way and then you have to start to learn reading music from scratch… it’s pretty hard to not get bored. Reading music is so difficult, I think. Finally, I passed the exam… I don’t really know how I did that. Today I am at least able to know where a C is on the stave and I am able to read guitar tabs.

However, the most I have learnt just by listening to music and by trying to play what I have heard. I think I am just blessed by ears for music… I don’t know.

ABOUT MY RELATION TO MUSIC

I really love music so much. It’s something special, something magical. However, music is able to express feelings, emotions and different moods in an incomparable way. It has the quality of making you focus on particular feelings.

If you would ask me about the style I like the most… probably it’s Reggae. Maybe, minor chords and melancholic songs are the ones I like the most but it’s not the melody, it’s the kind of flow that Reggae brings. It’s just kind of an island flow… I just can’t explain. Well anyway… it’s not the style that makes the music. It’s the feelings, the mood, the flow, the energy, the rhythm and the melodies.

I really like the melancholy of minor chords, I enjoy the peace and tranquility of acoustic guitars, I like the happiness of major chords, the variability of beats and I love the energy of electric guitars and especially the combination of all of them. Sometimes all of that fits pretty well. This is what I am trying to play with in my music. Anyway, maybe my music affects somebody out there. Hopefully it does, I just don’t know… but music is what affects me. So, if it hits you… «Come on and stay tuned as the music grows in my room».

ABOUT MUSIC

It’s not the style that makes the music. It’s the feelings, the mood, the flow, the energy, the rhythm and the melodies. This is the art.
